Our Story

While trolling on Lake Michigan with a old 1980 2stroke 4hp Mercury motor the idea behind my product was born.  Having found and soldered 4 pin holes in the float to fix the motor the first outing I forgot to open the internal fuel vent.  As it starved for fuel I put my bow mount into full throttle and worked on the engine to re-fire it several times before my realization that the vent cap wasn’t loose.  Meanwhile my friend is reeling in salmon while I figure out the issues…  Once the vent was open and trolling for a hour my friends tell me to close off the vent again so we can start catching fish.  😉   Lightbulb went off.

In our farm equipment a dial is a very rare device, when we run equipment up to 10mph in the field it can bounce you around a bit but “sporty” on the water is even more challenging.  I knew what I wanted and I couldn’t find one that I liked… So just like at the farm if they don’t make it you make it.  I wanted buttons, not a dial, I wanted a remote because I wanted control when reeling a fish in or netting one as you never know when a chinook salmon decides to charge vs run for the opposite shore.  I wanted easy to use but just like the 4 hp kicker I wanted functionality to trigger “Nemo” who often forgets why he/she is following my bait.

Late 2018 I started coding and testing my idea and by spring of 2019 myself and a close friend had the first units installed and running.  It had hard coded values as I could just tweak them and upload the code.

Mid summer I met a guy who wanted something like this on his inboard.  While busy in the summer told him I would make one for him in the fall.  Well 2019 never stopped raining and harvest didn’t get completed till mid Dec and mid Jan for the cleanup to be done so in March 2020 we prototyped and I installed a controller on his 2 barrel carburetor inboard engine.  Part of the deal was we had to be friends as I had only planned on making for close friends.

In April 2020 a guy from IL contacted me as he heard about my unit and wanted one, which became two as his friend as looking for one as well.  After some debate decided to build them 2 units and shipped mid May.  This is when I came up with the design for the adjustment linkage on the servo as customers trying to get the cable just right was difficult for just me so I needed to make it easier to remove slack from the cable.

June 2020 I had several interested in the remote which was always my plan.  Had 3 customers willing to wait and had it built and tested in a week.  Started offering remote or non remote units for the rest of the year.  Too many wires was my only concern…

Late 2020 I started designing a custom PCB board to reduce wires, while I would have way more soldering to do it was a more robust design.  Still to date I have and no issues with the actual wires but as a farmer wire connections are points of failures.  I started offering “pre orders” for the new 2021 version I had started to design.

2021 Besides the new PCB board I had code updates as well.  Some inventory challenges early, but was able to work thru those and get plenty of inventory to support growth.  Late in the year a custom lettered buttons for the remote were added and work to complete the custom touchpad began.

2022 Custom Touchpad for the main controller, and major changes to the code to allow more functionality as you see today.  Don’t worry….  Just as in farming one should never be satisfied and always look for ways to improve.  Mass updates of previous customers… Even the first two back in 2019 (Me and My friend) can now sport the new changes as well.  I consider everyone my friend and Happy Customers is the best advertising budget.
